Waterfalls of Mcleodganj provide a very peaceful and soothing experience of the natural beauty of the Dharamshala region. Here is a list of some of the best treks available and waterfalls to visit on your trip to Dharamshala and Mcleodganj.

Trek to Triund
Triund is a hill station situated in the Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh. Triund offers some great overwhelming views of the glaciers of the Dhauladhar mountain range. It is one of the most popular treks that are available in India among both beginners and experienced trekkers. The nights at Triund are so beautiful with star lit sky and the all lit up Kangra valley that it surely won’t let you sleep. Such stellar views and accessible location attracts more tourists and trekkers and more people are attracted to trek like activities. It is a relatively easy trek and good way for the beginners to enjoy a great long trek without any difficulties because of its well defined trail and also breathtaking views of the Kangra valley and dhauladhar peaks are quite picture perfect and feels like a reward after a long trek.

As this 9km trek is not enough for the experienced trekkers, Triund then acts as a stop camp spot as trekkers can continue their trek further to Indrahar pass. Further trek to Indrahar pass is much more long and steep.

To reach Indrahar pass, you need to trek to Triund first, and then continue the trek further to Lahesh cave. This is a steeper 4-5 km of trek ahead of Triund and takes up to 4-5 hrs of trek. Lahesh cave is at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level.

After stopping for a night camp at the caves, you can either come back to Mcleodganj through Triund, or you can trek further to the Indrahar pass which about 8-9 km from the Lahesh cave. It takes about 6-7 hrs to reach the pass from the caves. Situated at an altitude of 4300 meters, this high terrain trek is difficult and only recommended for experienced trekkers.

Winter trek to Triund

During the winters, Triund experiences a heavy snowfall. The trek becomes relatively hard as the trails are covered with snow and the trek becomes more tiring. Due to snow fall, the shops and cafes are also closed hence you have to carry your own supplies of food and water and tent. Winter trek to Triund is only advisable with a guide or instructor to reduce the chances or misrouting and injuries due to snow. Although the snow filled trek is relatively difficult, but the view of the white snow covered mountain is definitely rewarding and satisfying.

Duration of trek to Triund- 2days with a night camp &1 day without camping.
Duration of trek to Indrahar pass- 2 days 2 nights
Best time to visit- march to December (excluding June & July due to monsoon)
If you want to trek in snow fall, January & February are the  months to go.

How to reach Triund-first you need to travel to Dharamshala. Upon reaching Dharamshala, travel to Dharamkot, Mcleodganj from where the trek starts. Any public or private transport will get you there. Carry only limited amount of snacks as there are cafes and shops available on the trail of trek to Triund.
Cafes on the trek-

Magic View café- 3 hrs from the starting point of the Triund trek.
Snowline café- At the top of the Triund trek.

Kareri Lake

This trek to the altitude of 2934 meters is a moderately difficult trek but can also be pursued by beginner trekkers. This trek is in the opposite direction of Triund. This trek leads to fresh water lake in Kareri village which is located at the south of the dhauladhar range. It is a hike through pine and oak woods to get to the lake. Although the difficulty of this trek is moderate, but one can encounter some steep uphill climbs so it is advised to hire a guide and gear up properly before starting this amazing trek.

Minkiani Pass trek

To achieve the panoramic view of the peaks of the northern peaks , this trek is the best that is available out there. This trek to the altitude of 4300 meters is a difficult yet rewarding trek. The trail of this trek seems like a pathway to heaven as it moves through clouds and high peaks. This 14 km trek includes an overnight camp in the village. Due to the steepness of this pass, it is very exciting trek but also on the other hand a little difficult for the beginners.

Bhagsu Nag Trek

This short and refreshing trek is about 4 km long. There two places to visit on this trek, one is the Bhagsu temple which is dedicated to lord Shiva, other is the Bhagsu Nag water fall which is just 20 minutes away from the temple. Visitors often drench themselves in the cold waterfall after the trek as it is quite refreshing and fun. This trek is comparatively easier than other treks.
Waterfalls

Bhagsu Nag Water fall

What is a better prize after a 4km long trek than a dive into a cold peaceful waterfall? One of the main attraction of Dharamshala visitors is Bhagsu Nag water fall. An easy one hour trek from Mcleodganj is the way to reach this way to reach this water fall and is visited by several tourists for its adoring view. Situated 7000ft above sea level, this spot is an absolute delight to the soul of the visitor.

Dharamkot Water fall

Dharamkot water fall is a less known and visited place. But trek and nature lovers may find the beauty of this place quite mesmerizing. To reach Dharamkot water fall, you have to follow the trail of a 4-5 km trek from Mcleodganj itself. After reaching on the falls , a hot cup of tea will feel like a reward which you can get at a small shop there. The sights of this gorgeous location will definitely leave a great impact on your trip.
